Initial D Spin-off Possibilities

In an alternate Initial D universe.. what if Takumi had a sister who is also very good at driving? What if sometimes Takumi didn't wake up in time to deliver the tofu and it was his sister who was the one to deliver the tofu... for him? What if his sister is even better than he is...?? So many possibilities for a spin-off!!

AE86 Festival at Tsukuba Circuit coverage

Three weeks ago we covered a story on the annual AE86祭 (Hachiroku Festival) The event featured the Double Ace (AE86 and FD3S) from Initial D Fifth Stage. It had attracted quite a bit of attentions. Many locals had covered... this event. Out of all of those who attended the event, one stood out in particular.

Fifth Stage ACT.4 Anime vs Real Life

Initial D Fifth Stage ACT.4 took place in Hakone, Kanagawa. More specifically, it was the Nagao Touge that the AE86 and the MR-S were racing on. Yes, it is a real mountain pass. You guessed it, an Initial D fans from Japan went... to the actual location and took some pictures. And it is becoming more clear that the author completely copied the real life counter part, down to the sign post on the side of the road!

We'll post some more comparisons between the anime and real life counter part as more episodes get aired.

Interview with Shuichi Shigeno

Let's meet the author of Initial D! In this bonus video from the First Stage Vol.3 DVD ~Dash version~, Shinichiro Miki (voice actor of Takumi) interviewed the author Shuichi Shigeno. They mainly talked about the... re-release of the First Stage DVDs and some insights Shigeno has for Initial D's future.

As we all know, this man doesn't show himself that much. He likes to keep a very low profile. This interview is probably the most he has ever talked in front of a camera. Guys, you are looking at the soul and the very essence of Initial D. There would be no Initial D without this man.

Takumi vs Drift King?!

To promote the new Initial D First Stage DVD ~Dash version~, Kodansha specially invited Keiichi Tsuchiya to play Arcade Stage 7 AAX with Shinichiro Miki, our protagonist Takumi's voice actor. They also had a brief interview... with Mr. Tsuchiya regarding his experience as the editorial supervisor for Initial D.

The missing chapter

When Takumi said he's glad they didn't get caught in a traffic jam after he drove Mika back to Saitama in Fifth Stage Episode 4, there is a back story behind that line. The Animation production team purposely cut out an... entire chapter from the manga. That chapter takes place right after Takumi and Mika spending the day at the beach.

With Takumi's God-like reflex, he was able to avoid a serious car accident on the way home, with Mika next to him. Takumi looked so cool in that chapter!! There is no reason to cut out such a chapter! If you want to read it, please click here: http://mangafox.me/manga/initial_d/v35/c488/1.html

Bunta's Last Favor...

By now, most of you have seen the subbed version of Fifth Stage Episode 3 & 4. If you haven't, please watch them first before reading this post.

Let's talk about one thing that stands out in Episode 4. After... Bunta took the 86 out for a spin, he thought to himself that the 86 is very well tuned and he even praised Ryousuke for doing such a great job. (Bunta rarely praise anyone...) He went on and said the 86 can really go fast with the current setup, but it's still not enough for the "final step." He then thought to himself, "it can't be helped. I guess I have to be prepared. That'll be the last thing I can do for Takumi."

What is the last thing he can do for Takumi? That thing is still not revealed in the latest manga chapters. There are theories on what that thing could be.

• An official race between Bunta and Takumi. Bunta will let Takumi choose the car he wants to use and Bunta will use the other car to defeat Takumi.
• Bunta is going to pull some strings and get Takumi a pro racing career.
• Possible upgrades to the 86 that'll make it even faster. (GT wing, further weight reduction, an even better engine... etc.)
• Bunta is going to give some money to Takumi, enough so that he can start his own auto shop, start or join a professional racing team. After all, Takumi belongs to the street racing world.

There are more speculations on what that favor can be. Since the author Shigeno hasn't reveal what that last thing is, it can be anything at this point. Share your thoughts with us. What do you think that last thing Bunta can do for Takumi is?

Pride of a racer

Does one really need a reason to race? Or as Keisuke put it, you don't need a reason, your pride as a racer is a strong enough reason to race when someone challenges you. Initial D is good at exploring what goes through a... street racer's mind in many different situations.

Takumi initially absolutely hated the idea that when someone challenges him, he must accept. It has to do with his personality also. He doesn't like to be forced to do something. It must be coming from himself. The story beautifully captured the process of a young boy's change of perspective on driving. It also carried a very strong message of motivation. Don't do it because others think you are good at something, do it because you think you are good at it. And that in itself is good enough of a reason.

If you were to race someone, what would be your reason? Would it be pride, money, women, or just for fun?
