Tokyo Auto Salon 2014 - Initial D AE86

東京オートサロン2014 (Tokyo Auto Salon 2014) has successfully concluded the 3-day event yesterday. Held annually, the Tokyo Auto Salon are sponsored by many big organizations such... as Gran Turismo, Avex Entertainment, d-VIDEO, and newgin group.

In an effort to promote Initial D and the new movie that's coming out in August, エイベックス・グループ（avex group） sponsored the event and set up a booth with an Initial D spec AE86, completed with race queens. It is believed that avex entertainment is drumming up the promotion for the last installments of the Initial D franchise later this year.

The Tokyo Auto Salon is one of the top motor shows globally for modified and tuned cars. It has been held every January for the past 27 years at the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall, Chiba City.

AE86 Photography at Mt. Haruna

AE86カツオ, an Initial D fan from the Kyoto Prefecture, shows us how AE86 photography is done. You've probably seen thousands upon thousands photographs of the AE86, but has any of them stand out to... you?

The photography by this particular Initial D fan is so good that we just have to share them with you. We've never seen anyone put in so much efforts to capture the beauty of the AE86. The angles, the compositions and the lighting are all top-notch. It reminds us of the early days of Initial D where they spend a lot of time using camera angles to convey the sense of speed. Initial D Best Overtaking Moments

Overtaking is the act of one vehicle passing another slower moving vehicle traveling in the same direction. There are plenty of overtaking moments in Initial D. What make these moments exciting is how they pass the other car and... the techniques behind it.

Overtaking on a narrow mountain pass is extremely dangerous. Which is why we love to watch it. But that's only part of the reason. The main reason why we really love watching overtaking in Initial D is because there's a certain gratification one gets seeing a much older car passing a more powerful and modern car. It makes your heart beat faster.

For the sake of consistency, let's only count the overtaking moments that belong to a battle/race and if the overtake happen right before the match ends, it doesn't count. With that said, here's the list of all overtakes happened in Initial D:

Dear Santa, I've been a good boy this year... maybe I can have the Initial D Premium Blu-ray Box Pit1 as my Christmas present? Pretty please? (snicker)

Avex has released more information through their... 頭文字 D（Initial D）Official Site today regarding the Premium Blu-ray Box Pit1. We now know how Vol.1 of this box set looks like. As mentioned before, Pit1 contains all of First Stage (26 episodes), Second Stage (13 episodes) with proprietary re-mastering technology. The deluxe box set also contains many extra goodies such as Initial D Radio Stage Part 1, Extra-Drama CD Vol.1 & 2, Project.D mug, Akina SpeedStar towel and RedSuns "non-slip sheet for car" and many many more.

The "non-slip sheet" is designed for the dashboard where you can put some items on it and it will stick firmly on the dash solely by friction. It's pretty neat.

The Box Set Vol.1 is slated for a 2014.02.21 release, for 31,080 yen ($298 USD). So what are you waiting for? Pre-order it now as your Christmas gift! Or maybe ask Santa to get it for you! (wink)

God Foot has been spotted!

Uh oh, looks like the paparazzi finally spotted God Foot's R34 in real life!!

A Initial D fans from 愛知県 (Aichi Prefecture) spotted this R34 while cruising... around. The color of the GT-R matches the one shown in Initial D Fourth Stage. According to him, this is a very unique color for the R34. It certainly has its own appeal. He said it's even more eye-catching than the more popular colors like blue, silver, black and white.

Initial D Reunion Meet 3 Preliminary Post

It's been five months since the Initial D Reunion Meet 2. We are thinking of organizing another Initial D meet in 2014. Named "Initial D Reunion Meet 3" tentatively, this meet will also be about showing our passion... and love for Initial D as a series. Though, the sentiment might be a little different from the first two meets. As we know, the Initial D manga has ended its 18-years long running publication back in July and the Initial D Final Stage will be releasing in Spring 2014. It's coming to an end.

So this more or less will be a "send-off" meet for Initial D where we reminiscent about the good memories and say our good-bye to this classic. It is more than just books, anime series, or even arcade games at this point. It had became part of our collective memories and hopefully the joy it brings us will never end.

There isn't much set in stone at this point. This post is to gauge the initial interests first. Depending on how many people actually want to see this happen, we'll decide on the location and time.

What is decided for now is that it will definitely be in California. However, instead of holding it in NorCal / Bay Area again, we are open to the possibility of having it held in SoCal / Greater Los Angeles Area. The time frame will be some time between March to July.

With that said, we would like to see how many of you are interested in coming to this event. And please tell us where you want it to be held.

Merry Christmas, Takumi!

Christmas and the festive season are here. Unfortunately, it is not always a happy time for everybody. We, here at Initial D World, would like to send our thoughts to the people who cannot spend a joyful Christmas and enjoy its... magical moments.

If you recall the Third Stage, Takumi himself said: "Christmas is boring…" More precisely, when Natsuki asked him about his plans for Christmas, he nonchalantly replied not having done anything special since he was little. Putting things back into perspective, we are always in awe in front of Takumi's prowess with Project D or as the driver of Akina's 86, but we are also quick to forget that he grew up without a mother. No matter how you would put it, this is terrible for a child. Besides, when we were between 13 and 18 years old, surely we had other ideas and ambitions than delivering tofu at 4 am on a daily basis.

This is where Natsuki's role in the story becomes important. By setting up a surprise party, she allowed Takumi to celebrate Christmas for the first time. Remember Bunta and Takumi's reaction when she turned off the lights after lighting up the candles on the cake? She brings this relational / emotional balance that Takumi did not have before then.

It is details like this which makes you realize how much thought Shigeno-san put into the characters' (complex) personalities. This is why we all love Initial D! So please enjoy and cherish your Christmas times with your family and loved ones. And please, spare a thought to those for whom the magic of Christmas is an inaccessible luxury.

Initial D Perfect Shift Online Spring 2014

Good news for fans with a Nintendo 3DS, Sega is developing a game called 頭文字D... パーフェクトシフト ONLINE "Initial D Perfect Shift Online" for the handheld game console.

According to our source, the multi-player game will be free to download and players can pay for additional upgrades and items. So far it is confirmed that Takumi Fujiwara with his AE86 and Ryousuke Takahashi with his FC3S will be available for player to choose in the game. As far as maps are concerned, only Akina and Akagi are confirmed at the time.

Initial D Perfect Shift Online will be released in Spring 2014. Stay tuned for more details.
