Last 24 hours before Fifth Stage

Six years of wait feel likes nothing, this last 24 hours leading up to Fifth Stage feels more like an eternity. Like Takumi in Act 8 from First Stage, he really wanted to get to Mt. Akina to race the R32 but he didn't have... the AE86 at the time because Bunta took it somewhere. Of course, at the end Bunta showed up right before the time ran out and Takumi took the 86 and beat Nakazato's R32.

24 hours and counting...

Iketani Meets Mako

Remember how nervous you were when you talk to that special someone in your younger days? You know, that rush you had and when it almost felt like you couldn't breathe any longer? Initial D captured that shocking emotion... perfectly when Iketani first met Mako under the kamameshi billboard on a beautiful afternoon. It's such a natural and innocent scene. Who can fault Iketani for being so silly around such a beautiful girl? Most of us had been through that stage and it is a precious feeling to experience. After all, not every person can make you feel those butterflies in your tummy.

Initial D First Stage ~Dash Edition~

Animax will be releasing a special "Dash" version of Initial D First Stage Vol.1 on November 2nd, 2012 for ¥1,785 ($22.30). It will contain Act 1 to Act 4 in DVD format. This special edition also contains an... indepth and deluxe interview on m.o.v.e; some commentaries by the crew; and the manufacturer talks about the "Dawn of Initial D."

This is more of a Initial D memorabilia. If you are a collector, this is a must have. Animax did mention that they will be releasing a new volume every month starting November 2nd. One thing to note is that this is NOT a re-mastered edition.

Either way, it really looks like Animax is going all out on capitalizing on the return of Initial D. Personally, I hope the response are positive and they make enough money to realize there is a large market for Initial D / drifting that they will plan on releasing more materials later on after Fifth Stage. It's a wishful thought, but one can dream right? 'html/emoticons/smile.gif'

Your connection to your car

When you challenge another team on their home course, the biggest advantage they have is their knowledge of the course. That's what makes Project D so ambitious. Not only are they challenging the best locals on their home... course, they are also breaking the best course record the locals made.

Initial D talked a lot about home course advantage; how much you know of your opponent; the physical difference between the cars; etc. In the latest volume, it seems the author is trying on touch on a subject that is very basic but very important -- your connection to your car. How well do you know your car? How much do you care for it? It is becoming obvious that after all those superficial factors, at the end when we look inward, it is how the driver and the car can connect as one that will determine the outcome of the battle ultimately.

Attitude determines the future. Do you know your own car?

Police in Initial D

There had been countless battles in Initial D, but not once has we ever even hear about police. It is as if cops don't exist in the Initial D universe. Recently, a video of Japanese police chase in action shed light on this... strange phenomena. As we can see, they only ride bicycles during hot pursuit. (!!) The mystery solves itself instantly. There is no way the police would risk their life riding bicycle downhill to catch Takumi in his 86!! 'html/emoticons/laugh2.gif'

All jokes aside, the reason for the lack of police in Initial D is most likely because it will complicate things and since the series focus on racing, the author Shigeno did not want to introduce such authoritative figures. It would certainly dilute the excitement of downhill racing. Basically, it would ruin the whole atmosphere that gets us so pumped when we watch Initial D.

In reality, Japanese police are very harsh on cracking down street racing (including touge racing) in recent years. That's why Initial D becomes such a hit because it is a fantasy world that people can't fully accomplish in the real world. With that said, there are still underground touge racing even now. You just have to know the locals. 'html/emoticons/smile.gif'
